After 140 consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the WTA rankings, Naomi Osaka slipped from the top 10 of the last WTA rankings for the first time since winning the 2018 US Open title. She went from 7th to 7th place. 12th position in the WTA rankings.

Former world No.1, Osaka has retired from Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year to focus on her mental health. She lost quickly at the Tokyo Olympics, then lost in the third round of the US Open to unranked young Canadian Leylah Fernandez. All of these results and her absence from major competitions saw her drop to 12th place in the latest WTA rankings, despite winning the Australian Open in February.

Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka revealed last month that she was taking a hiatus from the game to focus on her sanity. The Japanese star hasn’t played a game since leaving the US Open in the third round last month. After the US Open, Osaka said she plans to take a break from tennis “for a while”.

Garbine Muguruza climbs to sixth, Ashleigh Barty stays on top

Garbine Muguruza climbed three places to sixth place in the standings. She beat Tunisian Ons Jabeur in the final of the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. Britain’s Emma Raducanu is ranked 22nd after her historic US Open victory last month. American Usue Maitane Arconada enters the top 200 after winning in California. Australian Ashleigh Barty remains at the top of the WTA rankings with 9,077 points.
